We have four new residents at Kindred Spirits as of
yesterday. Riva, Dillon, Marla and Decker. Three of
these guys were a surprise as I went to pick up one
"skinny" colt and arrived to find two yearlings, a
twenty year old mare still nursing one of them and a
miniature mare, the big guys have a body score of 1-2. I
was told "they all go" so came they did.

have a lot of the good sense there is in
the world. ~Josephine Demott

Wherever man has left his footprint in
the long ascent from barbarism to
civilization we will find the hoofprint of
the horse beside it. ~John Moore
RIVA
is about 20, she came with
the name "the Old Mare",
nursing last years colt
DECKER, below
is a yearling colt, RIVA's
baby. He had never been
touched and is very small
for his age
Dillon, in front
is a yearling colt, very
sweet, seems to have had
a halter on and some
handling
Marla,
is an eight or nine year old appaloosa mini. Pictures
to come soon, sweet and gentle but apparently
hadn't been handled for some time.
All four have been vetted and evaluated, DILLON
and DECKER are very wormy and underweight.
Bloodwork was drawn on DECKER to see if there
are any underlying reasons for him being
significantly undersized for his age. Otherwise
they seem to be normal colts.
RIVA was ultrasounded as she had been exposed
to a stud and was not pregnant (YEAH). She has
a very tipped uterus. She needs her teeth floated
but is so underweight we will wait a little bit
before floating her teeth, She leads and hasn't
offered any bad habits. DECKER has been
weaned.
All have been vaccinated and wormed.
If anyone would like to help with the expenses for
these four horses, it would be greatly appreciated,
Their vet expenses already total upwards of eight
hundred dollars and RIVA is getting senior grain
and supplements, The colts are getting growth
grain and supplements.
Marla seems to have no special needs, other
than vaccines, hoof trim and worming.
Donations can be tagged for a specific horse or
purpose, you can locate the paypal button on our
donations page, through which we can accept
credit cards.
These horses were an unexpected expense and
any help would be appreciated.
They will be available for adoption after their
health has improved,

DECKER'S blood work came back with an
elevated white cell count, but nothing pointing to
anything specific, he is on SMZ's, and seems to
be good today. Starvation is his real problem.
DECKER and DILLON are learning what grain is,
they have probably never had it before. They are
nibbling and I'm sure soon will be full fledged
grain addicts! :)
